OPAL Update
Dear Families,
After a wonderful summer term of fundraising, we have started our OPAL journey at Seaburn Dene. Together with the money raised by YOU, we have also secured a Community Chest grant of over £2,000 too.
We have installed vital storage for the equipment we will be collecting and organising for for our children on both yards to offer the highest quality play experiences possible. The next step is to follow up with a wellie storage area for our mud kitchen/sand pit areas.
Together with our play team, the main school yard will be divided into various zones, with each zone having a specific focus so children can have the freedom to explore and play in their own imaginative ways.
Phase one of our journey will see:
*A sand pit/digging zone.
*A den building zone.
*A loose part zone.
*A ball zone.
*A mud kitchen.
These zones will be introduced with assemblies, risk assessments and training over the course of the Autumn term. We aim to keep improving the zones and equipment as our OPAL journey continues.
Dear Families.
Please find enclosed guidance from the NHS about illnesses and coming to school and returning after illness/infection.
Covid - New Variant
Dear Families,
You may have seen on the news that there is a new variant of Covid in circulation.
If your child displays any symptoms of the illness please follow the guidelines, which is to try and stay at home and avoid contact with other people for three days.
It is vital that the welfare of our children and the wider school community is a priority.
I am sure you will support us in this.
Many thanks,
Mr Howe.

MacMillan Big Cake Sale
Following the success of last year’s cake sale to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, we will be doing this again on Friday 29th September 2023. We will be selling cakes to the children throughout the day with every penny raised going to a great cause.
It would be wonderful if each child could donate a small pack of cakes or homemade cakes that the children could buy. Cakes will be 50p each and we would ask that children bring in a maximum of £2 to spend. The children will be able to eat a cake in school and then will be asked to take the rest of the cakes home with them so it doesn’t spoil their lunch. If all donations of cakes could be brought into school by Thursday 28th September at the latest please and of course, if they are homemade, it is fine to bring them into school that morning.
Hopefully, we will have enough cakes to be able to sell some at the end of the school day in the school hall to raise further funds. We really hope that you will be able to support us in raising money for this wonderful cause.

Exciting times for swimming and eventually triathlon at Monkwearmouth, thanks to a significant pool redevelopment. We are expecting Seaburn Dene to access this, as part of our PE curriculum starting with Yr 6, after half term. Details to follow.
We had a bumper turn out we had from Team Seaburn in the Junior and Mini Great North Run. A special mention to Elora in Reception who raised £220 for the North East Autism Society and Isla, in Yr 4, who finished 40th overall.
We are taking part in a study to help improve and develop the speech, language and communication development of children in Nursery, following the pandemic. As part of this work - with the Universities of York and Sheffield, we will be leading the Communication Friendly Settings programme with Elklan. For your child to benefit, your consent is necessary. Please follow the link to a consent form.
When completing, the Early Years Setting is just: Seaburn Dene Primary School.

There will be a meeting on Thursday 14th September 2023 at 3.30pm to discuss the upcoming visit to Derwent Hill, which is from Monday, 16th October 2023 to Friday, 20th October 2023.
The meeting will give you the opportunity to learn more about the week and to ask any questions. Could you indicate in the comments section of Class Dojo whether you will be able to attend.
Parents attending should access school via the main entrance (the side gate from the yard will be open.) for safeguarding purposes.
Information packs will be sent out shortly.
Welcome back to school from all the staff at Seaburn Dene. It has been wonderful to see the children coming through the doors brightly each morning as the new school year begins. So many happy faces, reconnecting with friends and back into routines.
My assembly today was based around "doing the little things" based around the life of St David of Wales. It will be a consistent message to our children, that to be the best version of themselves and to be the best school community we can be, we need to consistently do the little things. I am sure that with your encouragement, this can start at home too.
Thank you, as ever, for your efforts in ensuring that they are smart and in full school uniform and black shoes.
We aim to keep the uniform cost as low and as simple as possible. Please note, school ties are part of our uniform - they can be bought from the school office. Trainers are for PE and examples of school uniform are modelled here by some of our children from Yr 3 and 6.
With temperatures set to hit 25 degrees tomorrow, could you please make sure your child is wearing sunscreen, a hat and has a water bottle.
Finally - and not for the last time - all uniform needs to have a child's name or initials on. We know from long experience, those that doesn't rarely finds its way back to its owner, once put down.
