Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
A huge well done to Y6 pupil Anya, who received the Young Environmental Champion Award at Sunderland Young Achievers’ Awards 2024 on Friday night.
Not only is Anya the youngest member of the city’s Environmental, Green and Sustainable young people’s group, but she is also an active part of the school's Climate Friendly Action Group.
The citation for her award reads, “...she is a dedicated member of the Environmental, Green and Sustainable young people’s group, and embodies what it means to be an environmental champion.”
We couldn’t be prouder of this young person.
On Friday, 22nd March, we are hoping to install raised beds to help teach ALL our children about growing plants and vegetables as well as their environment.
The raised beds will be on the grassed area between Early Years and the main school.
To help us complete this work, as part of our Climate Friendly Schools project, we need a small group of willing volunteers who can spare some time on the day (even an hour!)
If you think, you or a relative, could help on Friday - please complete this short form:

The panel meet throughout the year to discuss a wide range of items about school life that affect the parent community as a whole.
The aims of the panel are:
To update parents about school changes and projects
To provide a consultation group for the school to present new ideas and changes.
To create a link between Seaburn Dene parents’ views discussed in the playground / outside school and school leaders.
To provide a regular opportunity for parents to meet with senior leaders and share any strengths, comments, queries or concerns.
Ideally, I would try to encourage a representative from each year group. Please feel free to join us at 9am tomorrow (entrance via the main reception area.) You can either comment or send an email to admin@seaburndeneprimary.co.uk to register your interest.
The Friends Group would like to ask for donations of cakes, especially home baked, for the Easter Fayre on Wednesday 27th March.

Lilimae was selected to represent South Tyneside Gymnastics Club at the end of January at the 2024 Scottish Acrobatic Invitational. Her and her two partners got 6th place out of 16 partnerships after just a couple of months of starting to work together. That’s a fantastic achievement.
Meanwhile, Leo and his team played in in a tournament hosted by Leeds United. Some brilliant football was played which resulted in them coming second place and qualifying for the Pulcino D’oro International tournament this summer which will be held in Italy. Well done, Leo.
Wraparound Care
The government is working to deliver its ambition for all parents of primary school children aged 4 to 11 to access ‘wraparound’ childcare in or around their child’s school between 8am and 6pm.
Wraparound childcare as the name suggests, refers to childcare that ‘wraps’ around the conventional school day and is often referred to as breakfast clubs, after-school clubs and can be provided by schools, private providers, settings and childminders.
Together for Children have been allocated funding from the DfE to support the expansion of wraparound childcare to meet parental demand.
They want parents to express their views via an online survey:

We are proud to support Children's Mental Health Week in the coming week. Here are some tips for families to talk to your child about mental health.
Dear parents/carers
Here are some of our events for Spring term. Class trips/opportunities may be added, depending on availability - on your child's class page.
Thank you.
Rotakids
Together with the Rotary Club of Seaburn we are launching Rotakids.
RotaKids is a fun and exciting way for children in Yrs 3-6 to make friends and get involved with important activities in the community, all while having a great time in the process.
Examples of RotaKids activities include:
Filling shoeboxes with toys for underprivileged children around the world as part of the Rotary Shoebox Scheme
Raising money for charities in your area with a sponsored bike ride, non-uniform day, cake sale or school fun days
Supporting the environment by setting a nature project in the school playground or local community
Collecting books for children in countries around the world.
We are looking for 12 potential Rotakids in our school to join this new club: starting on Wednesday, 24th January 2024 in school.
I will be taking names of those interested on Monday from class teachers and if we are oversubscribed, I will be drawing them out of the hat.

Big Ambition Survey
We have been asked by Dame Rachel De Souza, Children’s Commissioner for England, to share details of this survey with you which you may wish to complete with your child/ren:
www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigambition.
Further resources are available on their website.
Message from Dame De Souza:
"It is really important that the pupils at Seaburn Dene Primary School participate in The Big Ambition survey and have their say.
I want to ensure that the voices of all children in Sunderland are fairly represented in the findings so that I can share their views with the most senior members of the country.
I must reiterate that it is vital that all children have their voice heard through this survey because, as Children’s Commissioner for England, I have a statutory duty to protect and promote the views and interests of children.
"The Big Ambition provides a much-needed opportunity for the children of England to tell political decision makers what is important to them ahead of the General Election. I will be sharing their responses with Government to ensure that children’s voices are heard."
A list of events for Christmas in school. Please look out for some additions, eg the choir and assemblies.
Odd Socks Day is happening on Monday, November 13th as school supports all the work of Anti-Bullying Week.
The theme this year is "Make A Noise About Bullying", which is about empowering children not to be silent when bullying is happening, either to them or others.
On Monday, we would encourage all our children to put on a pair of odd socks and join the 5 million children nationwide who participate in this event.
