National Poetry Day 18

In its fifth amazing year, our school held it's annual Poetry Recital Competition this week with a marathon celebration of all things poetic. Children from Reception to Year 6 were given a booklet of poems to learn, with the finalists performed in front of the whole school, proud parents and a panel of judges. This year the judging panel was: Mr Howe (Acting Headteacher), Nicole (from Bark and Read) and Jacob (School Councillor)representing the voice of the child.

Of course, every performer impressed the judges as it is not easy to show dramatic intent, confidence and expression when you are quite possibly shaking with nerves in front of the whole school. So, congratulations to all the performers, particularly those of our youngest children, stepping out in the hall, for the first time. Macy won the overall title with a mesmeric performance of the Witches' Chant from MacBeth. In second place was Beau and Frances came third. Other winners included Logan, Elena, Emelia, Ed and Orlaith, Lauren and Isabelle and Alex.

Also at the event, we announced that the winning poem for the Ivan Jones Amazing Poem Award was by Ruby Jones who wrote about our school value of kindness. In this judging, Ivan said, "This is thoughtful and has poetry in its lines and in its ideas - a genuine attempt to look deeper into what Kindness is about."

Runner up was Jack, from Yr 1, who wrote a polished poem about Kindness. Ivan also commended Isabelle's Aspiration poem and Sophia, from Year 2, and her own view of kindness.
