  • Author visit on Mental Health

Wed 24 May 2023 Mr John Howe

This morning we are hosting author Sarah Millington in Y5, whose novel Demelza Rice Is Not Very Nice, deals with bullying, mental health and social media, as children make the transition into KS3.

Sarah says, “My main inspiration was my own experience of being at secondary school. Like Sophie
Miller, the protagonist, I was bullied on the first day and never felt like I was cool enough. I now
have two girls of similar ages to Sophie and feel that, in the current social media-obsessed climate,
the pressure to fit in is even more intense. I wanted to let young people know it’s OK to be different
and inspire confidence in them to be themselves. As a journalist, I’m privileged to tell other
people’s stories on a daily basis. I wanted the chance to tell mine.”

Parents can receive a 30 per cent discount on the book (£6.99) if they buy it from
www.bookguild.co.uk and enter SCHOOL30 at the checkout.

  • Rugby Success

Tue 09 May 2023 Mr John Howe

Well done to our Tag Rugby team who took the cup in the Cluster competition at Monkwearmouth Academy. We had to split the children into two sides and both sides won games, but Seaburn Storm went unbeaten overcoming their classmates from Seaburn Saracens. What this picture doesn't show is the fantastic grit enthusiasm and willingness to have a go, from these children. The children practiced every lunchtime for a week and played fantastically well in attack and defence today, scoring, well, I lost count of how many tries, alongside some acrobatic tags against Redby and two sides from Southwick. Captain Jack lifted the cup, which we shared in assembly today.

  • Sunderland 3K Run

Sun 07 May 2023 Mr John Howe

What a fantastic morning. Eight of our runners, one parent runner and a slightly slower head teacher, represented Team Seaburn at the city's Big 3K Run. A huge well done to : Isla and Blake, Heidi and Jacob, Jessie, Mathilda, William, Caden, Esther and Esther's mum for digging deep and completing the course. It was lovely to do it as a school and we will be back next year. Thank you to the parents and family who came along to cheer the children. The children will receive their run t-shirts during Celebration Assembly on Thursday.
