  • Weekly Update

Fri 13 Oct 2023 Mr John Howe

    Mr Day

I am sad to say that Mr Day will be leaving Seaburn Dene on Tuesday, 31st October for pastures new - Northumbrian Water, to be precise.
I hope you will join me in wishing him the very best of luck in his new career. Mr Day will be missed in school and has made a tremendous impact since starting with us in September last year, not least with the children and our football teams.
I hope that Mr Day continues his coaching journey, despite his new challenge and we wish him well, remembering that he is always a part of our school family.

Would you like to meet up with other parents and help us run fundraising activities in school? The Friends Group will be having a meeting next Thursday, 19th October at 2.15pm in school. No need to make any big commitments, come along, have a coffee and see how we help school raise funds and give the children fun activities at the same time. See you at the school office 2.15pm!

    Football

Our Yr 5/6 Football team - had an unbeaten start to a new season after promotion to Division B, winning both games v Broadway Juniors and Valley Road Primary with two clean sheets too.

    School Photos

Wild North Photography were in this week taking our children's photos and they are delighted with the result. Photos won't be available for another 3/4 weeks so if your child came home with a form to allow you to access the photos can you please either keep the form in a very safe place or complete the registration form. Once registered you will receive an email when the photos are ready to view. We are keeping the majority of the forms in school and will send them home once the photos are ready.

Message from NHS England for all parents.
Measles continues to circulate across England with all regions having cases or outbreaks. All children
returning to school after a summer break without being up to date with their MMR vaccinations are at risk of catching measles in their classroom from an infected classmate.
    • Nine out of ten unvaccinated children can catch measles from an infected classmate (source)
    • One in five will require a hospital visit if they catch measles (source)
    • One in 15 will experience complications from measles, such as meningitis and sepsis (source)
    * This stat is taken from the published Gov.uk source for MMR uptake age 5 for the last four quarters results as a proxy for those starting

  • OPAL Journey Update

Wed 27 Sep 2023 Mr John Howe

    OPAL Update
    Dear Families,
After a wonderful summer term of fundraising, we have started our OPAL journey at Seaburn Dene. Together with the money raised by YOU, we have also secured a Community Chest grant of over £2,000 too.
We have installed vital storage for the equipment we will be collecting and organising for for our children on both yards to offer the highest quality play experiences possible. The next step is to follow up with a wellie storage area for our mud kitchen/sand pit areas.
Together with our play team, the main school yard will be divided into various zones, with each zone having a specific focus so children can have the freedom to explore and play in their own imaginative ways.
Phase one of our journey will see:
    *A sand pit/digging zone.
    *A den building zone.
    *A loose part zone.
    *A ball zone.
    *A mud kitchen.
These zones will be introduced with assemblies, risk assessments and training over the course of the Autumn term. We aim to keep improving the zones and equipment as our OPAL journey continues.

  • When Should I Keep My Child Off School?

Mon 25 Sep 2023 Mr John Howe

    Dear Families.
Please find enclosed guidance from the NHS about illnesses and coming to school and returning after illness/infection.

  • News and Upcoming Events

Fri 22 Sep 2023 Mr John Howe

    Covid - New Variant

    Dear Families,
You may have seen on the news that there is a new variant of Covid in circulation.
If your child displays any symptoms of the illness please follow the guidelines, which is to try and stay at home and avoid contact with other people for three days.
It is vital that the welfare of our children and the wider school community is a priority.
I am sure you will support us in this.
    Many thanks,
    Mr Howe.

    Wild Oyster Family Fun Day
Join the free Wild Oysters Family Fun Day on Saturday 30th September, from midday  to 3pm, on Roker Beach.

    Activities include:
    * oyster reef sand art with Soul 2 Sand.
    * beach clean and help protect our oceans with Groundwork North East.
*rock pooling activity for children with Ranger Jane.
*transform into sea creatures with fabulous face painting.

    MacMillan Big Cake Sale
Following the success of last year’s cake sale to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, we will be doing this again on Friday 29th September 2023. We will be selling cakes to the children throughout the day with every penny raised going to a great cause.
It would be wonderful if each child could donate a small pack of cakes or homemade cakes that the children could buy. Cakes will be 50p each and we would ask that children bring in a maximum of £2 to spend. The children will be able to eat a cake in school and then will be asked to take the rest of the cakes home with them so it doesn’t spoil their lunch. If all donations of cakes could be brought into school by Thursday 28th September at the latest please and of course, if they are homemade, it is fine to bring them into school that morning.
Hopefully, we will have enough cakes to be able to sell some at the end of the school day in the school hall to raise further funds. We really hope that you will be able to support us in raising money for this wonderful cause.
