Weekly News

Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.

  • Here comes the sun

Tue 20 Apr 2021 Mr John Howe

Today will be a first step to school normality, as we start our extra-curricular provision through our sports after school clubs. Helping children be as active as possible is a central driver of our curriculum at Seaburn Dene and we look to link up with as many sports as possible, to give pupils the chance to find their passion and interests. Today, Mr Good starts cycling club in Yr 3 and I'm running a rugby club for Yr 5 for the next half term. Meanwhile, I have really enjoyed watching the PE lessons from Nursery to Year 6 in everything from handball to tennis, it's a real strength of our school that, with the support of staff and the leadership of Mr Ashton, children get lots of opportunities to try different skills across multiple sports.

    Earth Day

This week's Monday assembly, I used Earth Day to explore some of the small things we can do, right here in Seaburn. The theme is "Restore Our Earth", through action, such as tree planting and controlling litter. Of course, the children like to take the initiative. So, well done Bobby, Alix and Sophie, who have single-handedly, taken on the task of tree planting thanks to the deliveries from the Woodland Trust and supported by Morrisons. The children organise themselves each and every day, with the minimum of adult intervention,  - which is a credit to them. Well done!

    Bikes and Scooters

It's great to see our children and families being healthy and using bikes and scooters as transport to school, particularly as we track this through our Travel Tracker. However we need to ensure that this is done safely especially on roads and on school site. Please ensure that your child is closely supervised when entering or leaving school site. DO NOT let them drive their bike down the ramps– either used ramped access areas or wheel the bike down steps. This is to ensure the safety of all. Thank you for your support.

    Uniform

Just a few reminders around uniform.

    * No jewellery is allowed. Earrings (studs) are allowed, but must be removed for PE.

*Long hair must be tied up, for health and safety reasons.

*No football kit or multi-coloured kit for PE. Blue or white T-shirt, black or blue shorts, trainers.plimsools, school PE hoodie.

    Coronavirus on site safety reminders

The Government Guidance that parents/carers/visitors should wear face masks and maintain a 2 metre distance whilst on school site still stands. These measures are in place to keep everyone safe.

As before, classes will work within their own class setting and have separate playtimes and lunch times from other classes (except Yr 1/2 - shared bubble). A reminder that the children are based in their classes which is their bubble or ‘contact’ group.

If we have a positive case then the contact group would need to self-isolate after advice from Environmental Health, NCC and Public Health.

If your child is ill do not send them to school. If a member of the family has symptoms of the virus do not send them to school. The family should isolate for 10 days.

    Coronavirus information:

We are still in a global pandemic and we must continue to be vigilant in following all Public Health advice.

What do I do if myself or my child is unwell and we think we may have Covid?

If you or a household member starts to feel unwell and you think you may have Covid you MUST:

    1. Ensure that the entire household starts to isolate

    2. Book a test

    3. If the test is negative family members can go about their normal business and you can return to normal activities providing you feel well enough to do so

    4. If the test is positive you MUST inform all other contacts immediately. You and your family must isolate for 10 days.

    5. If a family member develops symptoms book a test for them. Isolation for the family would begin again from the onset of the last set of symptoms.

  • Summer Term Starts here

    Wed 14 Apr 2021 Mr J Howe

This term - is a term of looking forward and we have much to look forward to.

The return of most shielding staff, after school clubs, some school trips slowly starting, maybe some competitive sports, a Y6 residential and – I am confident – a full uninterrupted term of learning.

We will hopefully have our new, Friends of Seaburn Dene-funded EYFS area and the start of KS2 yard improvements, either completed or underway.

In April and May, we will continue to plant trees and wild flowers across the grounds. Also in the summer term, most year groups will be having their Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) lessons: some of which has been carried over from last year. This content would not have been the easiest to deliver remotely.

I am sure that it is going to be a glorious summer. Fingers and toes crossed.
