  • Double Sports Accolade for Seaburn Dene

Thu 29 Sep 2022 Mr John Howe

Seaburn Dene Primary School has landed a double sports accolate with two top awards for making a commitment to develop its children to be healthy and the best they can be in school sport.

We are so proud to announce that we have achieved the Platinum School Games Mark award for our commitment and engagement in the School Games for 2021/22 alongside the Great Active Sunderland Schools Charter Gold Standard. A huge well done to everyone who has helped these leading awards - again

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport. We are committed to using the School Games to try and engage those young people who haven’t previously been active or represented our school and to try and ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community. We believe in the power of physical activity and school sport as a school and give opportunities to those young people that need it most either as a participant, leader, official or volunteer.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas linked to the five School Games outcomes and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

  • Autumn WOW Walk of Fame Challenge

Tue 27 Sep 2022 Mr John Howe

As you know, our school takes part in Living Streets’ WOW – the walk to school challenge which encourages children to walk to school and enjoy the many benefits this simple act brings.

WOW is a pupil-led initiative where children self-report how they get to school every day. If they travel actively (walk/wheel, cycle, scoot or park and stride) once a week for a month, they get rewarded with a badge. It's that easy!

This term, we’re also getting involved in their autumn WOW Walk of Fame Challenge. The more pupils walk/wheel, cycle, scoot or park and stride to school between Monday, 3 October and Monday, 31 October the better our chance of topping the local and national leaderboards. So, the message is, let’s travel actively to school this October during International Walk to School Month!

What are the benefits of walking to school? Walking to school helps children feel happier and healthier and arrive to school refreshed, fit and ready to learn. More families walking means fewer cars on the road during the school run, helping to reduce congestion and pollution at the school gates.

What if you can’t walk to school? If you live too far away or don’t have time to walk the whole way to school, you can Park and Stride to help your child earn their WOW badge and help us move up the leaderboard. Park at least ten minutes away from the school and walk/wheel the rest of the way.

Will you join us and help get our school to the top of the local and national leaderboards?

Almost 2,000 schools and well over half million pupils across the UK are enjoying the benefits of walking to school thanks to all of Living Streets’ walk to school campaigns.

For more information on the WOW Walk of Fame Challenge, visit livingstreets.org.uk/walkoffame

Let’s continue to swap those school runs for the school walks.

  • Queen's Death

    QUEEN'S DEATH

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Seaburn Dene Primary School joins the nation in mourning the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
We extend our condolences to all members of the Royal Family at this sad time.  She was a truly inspiring woman, daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother and sovereign.

Thank you for your service. Rest in peace.

We will be marking this moment, with a special assembly of remembrance tomorrow morning for our children.
We will update with any further information regarding the national period of mourning as it reaches us.

  • Welcome Back

Tue 06 Sep 2022 Mr John Howe

    Dear Parents and Carers,
It was wonderful to finally welcome everyone back to school today after the six weeks holiday. A particular highlight was meetings the new members of our school family, both in our Early Years classes and across the school.
The school grown ups have been in school making sure that everything is ready, with a little extra work needed after a huge window replacement programme and £20,000 STEM Science Zone development.
The first week will focus on settling back into school and making a confident start to the new school year, with lots of exciting activities planned for the children.
Thanks for your patience at the end of the school day. We were simultaneously hit by an area-wide power cut, the torrential rain, Tour of Britain road closures, which led to the need to move the children from the yard as quickly as possible. Please ensure your child has a coat in school, gloves and a hat for colder days ahead. We often go outside for play in wet weather - today being the exception.

    General Reminders:
*Please ensure that all uniform is named clearly.
*Remember that we promote healthy eating snacks at break times- no sweets or chocolate bars. Packed lunches should also provide a healthy balance of food. We are a nut free school. Please do not send your child into school with any item containing nuts.
*Pupils should have a named water bottle in school each day.
*No jewellery. Earrings should be plain studs and the children should be able to take them out themselves. Hair accessories should be in keeping with school uniform colours.
*Clubs - a letter will be going out next week, regarding clubs on offer this Autumn term.
*Please check your houses for any school books that may not have been returned before the summer.

We are all looking forward to a great year ahead and we welcome all the new children and families starting with us this year.
