Sun 12 Feb 2023 Mr John Howe

    MP Visit

On Friday, we welcomed our MP, Julie Elliott into school - for the first time since 2010.

She handed out certificates to our fantastic public speaking competition winners:

Y3 - Isla - who spoke about anti-bullying and trusted adults.

Y4 - Alice - who spoke about dental hygiene.

Y5 - Seb - who eulogised about mathematics.

Y6 - Jude - who spoke passionately about global warning.

Our overall winner was a fantastic Y6 speaker, Sophia - with a very mature, informative and impassioned speech about achieving gender equality.  Julie was clearly impressed and may have an eye on Sophia as a possible replacement, in the future.

Next she met our school council and listened to their plans for the coming year, starting with our school toilets.

Julie had a tour of school and was so impressed, she asked to come back again.

    Basketball Win

What a wonderful night I experienced watching our Yr 5 basketball team who were crowned Sunderland champions with a last gasp shoot out win over Richard Avenue in the final during half time at the Newcastle Eagles.

Following a 6-0 win over East Herrington, the squad made it to the final at the Vertu Arena in Newcastle and triumphed with a nail biting hoop to win.

Thanks to all the families, classmates and staff who loudly cheered on the team. Special thanks must go to the coaching team of Mr Ashton, Mr Day and ex-pupil Beau Bruce.

    WOW Walk of Fame

During October, our school took part in the Walk of Fame challenge. We were delighted to announce that Seaburn Dene topped the Walk of Fame local leader board for Sunderland and are leading the board, so far.
This month is round two and we are aiming to do even better - with your help. Our Travel Tracker Ambassadors will be aiming to log every day, during February - with the goal of climbing even higher up the national charts.
As well as the Walk of Fame challenge – I have launched the WOW Badge Design competition 2023!
This is a competition for designing next year’s WOW badges. The theme this year is ‘The British Nature Walk’ which aims to bring pupils closer to the nature found across Britain.
A template form will be sent home to all children who want to enter this brilliant competition.
The competition ends on Tuesday 28th February. Full details and entry forms can also be found here. (livingstreets.org.uk/badgecompe2023)
