  • The Final Countdown

Mon 13 Jul 2015 Miss Purdy

The last week of term and the last week for our Year 6 children in primary education. It's always an emotional time as the Year 6 children are part of the Seaburn family. There will be a celebration afternoon on Wednesday when the children will present their play to parents, then the school and Rotary Club make individual presentations to the children. A delicious high tea created by our cooks Gillian, Julie and Ruth will be served. On Thursday Year 6 will eat in style at Bellinis before their disco.  We hope they have a memorable week.

As they move onto their various secondary schools, we would like to wish them well. A hard working group, we are sure each and every one will find success in their new schools.

    Astonishing SATS Results

Last week our SATs results were released with Year 6 achieving amazing results. Not only did we achieve 100% level 4s in maths for the second year running but 50% are at level 5 with 18% achieving Level 6. In reading 95% achieved Level 4, in writing 100% and in Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar 95%. We  always said that this class has been the most industrious and determined of all our classes to reach for the stars but they haven't just reached for the stars but zoomed into orbit. Congratulations to you all.

    Take One Picture Book Showcase

On Thursday families are invited to come into classes from 2.30pm to look at the children's work from the transition Take One Picture Book project. Songs and poems will be shared at 2.30pm and 2.45pm in some classrooms too.

    Uniform

The uniform section of the website clearly specifies what you need to have ready for the Autumn term and we hope you find this useful. We have noticed that trainers or trainer style shoes are creeping in and, whilst we may turn a blind eye at the end of the school year, we expect all children to wear sensible black leather type shoes in September. The grids at the back of the annual report are new to staff but, in the year ahead, they are being asked to be far more accurate in their half termly recording on issues such as uniform compliance. Children always want to do well so please help them to achieve green grids by reading the uniform guidance carefully.

    Pencil Cases

Children love new pencils, collecting rubbers and themed pencil cases but we are asking for these to be kept at home. For many years we have had a rule not to bring pencil cases into school as they can be quite a distraction and take up too much space on desks. The school provides all the equipment children need.

How do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?

Nothing can surpass the excitement of live theatre. On Thursday 3rd September members of the Drama Club will be travelling to Newcastle Theatre Royal to see the matinee performance of "The Sound of Music". We have two seats left at a cost of £19.50 to include travelling on the Metro so please get in touch with Sheena Baker in the school office if you would like to your child or children to join us.

  • Changes to the New School Menu

    Thu 09 Jul 2015 S Baker

After consulting with both Miss Purdy and Gillian the cook we have made a couple of small changes to our new menu for September:

Week 1, Wednesday - the Filling Station is now Chicken and Sweetcorn Pasta Pot instead of BBQ Chicken

Week 3, Tuesday - the Filling Station is now Chicken Sandwiches instead of Cheese.

Mrs Baker will speak to any child that has already handed in an order form with one of the above to make sure they are happy with the alternative.

  • So Much To Do, So Little Time!

    Note Perfect Performance

On Friday the school choir took part in the celebrations at St. Peter's Church. Revd Child has praised the children, judging their performance to be superb, especially as they had three of the most difficult songs to sing. Angel's gran telephoned me this morning to describe them as "perfecto". The choir's behaviour is always outstanding so we would like to thank the members for giving up their lunch hours to become note perfect.

    New Teacher in School

The children in Year 5 are very excited today as Miss Bliss has joined us for three days. She will soon get to know the children, their capabilities and characters so that when we return in September she is up and running from day 1. Welcome Miss Bliss.

    Intensive Training for Staff

This week Mr Smith and Mr Ashton will be in Wakefield for two days being trained for the introduction of Singapore maths into our school. On our training day (the first day of the Summer holidays) we are all being trained in Reciprocal Reading in preparation for the new term and the higher standards set for all year groups from September 2015. Basically, children are expected to work at the equivalent of a level higher than previously set for each year group so, as a staff, we are working very hard on our own development to ensure the best possible opportunities for the children.

    Take One Picture Book Showcase

Come along next Thursday afternoon (16th) between 2.30pm and 3.00pm to hear all about our Take One Picture Book project. The children will proudly explain their work and perform for you.

  • Claim your Lost Property!

    Wed 01 Jul 2015 S Baker

As I am sure a lot of parents are aware, we have acquired a lot of school uniform over the year that has not been claimed, as well as a few items from Drama Club that, again, have remained unclaimed. Staff always check for names on labels and where a name is identified it is returned. Can we please ask all parents to CLEARLY PRINT your child’s name on, or buy uniform labels, for all school uniform, including coats and shoes. It would be helpful if you could put your child’s first name and initial of surname on rather than just their initials. Permanent marker pens only cost a couple of pounds and will last for a few years.  We will be setting up tables in the big yard on Friday afternoon from 3pm onwards with all unmarked uniform for parents to go through.  It would be great if we could reunite all uniform to its rightful owner! All clothing not claimed will be recycled at the end of term.
