• Our Final Week

  GOODBYE MR. TRAVES

  This week we also say goodbye to Mr. Traves after three years with us, who leaves to take up a teaching post in Durham. Mr Traves has led by example, dedicating his time to increasing the number of sporting opportunities our children have been able to enjoy. We'd like to thank him for all his inspiration and hard work -he has become an invaluable and much appreciated member of our team and we will miss him.

   

  NO HOLIDAYS PLEASE-

  Please avoid taking term time holidays leading up to and during the following weeks:

  Year 6 Sats in 2020 will be in the week beginning 11th May

  Year 1 Phonics Screening Check-Week of 10th June

  Term time holidays negate all the interventions we provide in school. During a 2 week holiday your child will miss (at least) 10 English lessons, 10 maths lessons, as well as the wider curriculum.

   

  Yr 6 Leavers' Production

   

  Last week, we were all treated to our first Yr 6 Musical Leaver's Spectacular. Guided by Mrs Houston, Yr 6 rose rose to the challenge of a very demanding script to bring us a wonderful show. This was followed by our amazing Yr 4 choir performing  at the Summer Streets festival in Seaburn on Saturday. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

• Re-imagining our outdoor area

  As we move - swiftly - towards the Summer holiday, there is a lot going on in school, which I hope you will be able to support. Please keep an eye out for information about up coming events, such as our Leavers' Production and our involvement in the Summer Streets spectacular on Seaburn Rec. Yes, Mrs Houston has arranged for our talented Yr 5's to sing on stage at this celebration of music in our community...Abba and The Beatles - can't wait.

   

  Assessments

  This time of the year has seen the conclusion of all our end of year assessments; some of which - Year 1 phonic check, Year 2 and Year 6 national curriculum tests are from the Department of Education; and our own, school assessments in other year groups which we use to help measure your child's progress and levels of attainment. We gather the information in order to help inform our own day-to-day assessments and then report to you in the final term. KS2 Sat test results are released tomorrow (Tuesday, 9th July.) You will receive your child's annual report - in a new format - on Friday, 12th July 2019.

   

  Outdoor Area

  Your help is needed. Our outdoor area, in FSU, is in desparate need of some TLC. Please see the attached flyer for items we are searching for in order to give the children a range of experiences. We rely on the support of our community to help us. So if you know of any tradesman, businesses etc who could supply some of the listed items, we would be grateful if you could make our case!

   

  Basketball

  Our Yr 6 did fantastically well in reaching the quarter finals of a regional basketball competition on Friday. Yet again, our pupils punched above their weight and competed to the best of their abilities at the Newcastle Eagles Arena. Thanks to Mr Traves for organising.

   

  Meet and Greet and Nursery Induction

  What a pleasure it was to welcome parents into school - particularly those new to Seaburn Dene - last week. It was a pleasure talking to so many people and listening to feedback about our school. We hope those of you who managed to pop into the meeting, learnt more about our vision for next year and beyond at Seaburn Dene.

   

  Football in school

  We are proud of the many - and varied - sports on offer at Seaburn Dene. This extends to play and dinner times, where we throw open the doors of our sports store and ensure children get a chance to try everything from stilts to cricket. Our new sports leaders, who completed their training this week, will be helping to run activities on the yard, but it remains the case that pupils should NOT bring their own footballs into school. This includes games before school. Children can only use school footballs to play games. I will, once again, explain this as I reinforce expected behaviour in the playground, eg no throwing acorns, wrestling games.
