Week beginning 8.11.21

What a fantastic week it has been in school! It was simply wonderful to see so the respect afforded by our children during our Remembrance Day event on Thursday. It is important, even under the restrictions we have at the moment, to come together as a school to mark important events.

It was also great to see the time and energy many children put into both their costumes and creating scarecrows to line the fence on Torver Crescent. Peter, from North East Sport, was able to spend some time judging the entrants (to be announced on Monday) - while discussing potential community projects.  This was sandwiched in between a visit from the Newcastle Eagles into Y5, nasal flu spray, while welcoming the residents from Cuthbertson Court, who helped us create our community quilt. They loved popping into our school and talking to some of the children who were involved in the project. It turns out that one of the visitors worked here for a term, as a teacher, in the early 1970s - she felt that school now was so much bigger.

Although I spend a lot of my time working in other parts of the school, as a Head Teacher, I still LOVE to get into class and work with our wonderful pupils. We think it's really important for us to teach, so we remember how much fun it is being a teacher.

I have been teaching History in Year 6 this year and they have amazed me week upon week with what they can remember and how enthusiastically they take part.

In all this, it's important to be cautious, but school life has to continue and so it does.
