It was my privilege to see some of our former pupils step up to receive awards recognising their contributions to school life at Monkwearmouth Academy. We maintain links in many ways with the children once they move on from us. Currently Mrs Houston hosts a Yr 7 Girls' Book Club - continuing on from her work in engaging girls around their reading from Y5 up. Of course, we see the children in other roles: as siblings, sports leaders and - in Y10 - on work experience. But it is wonderful to see them fulfilling the obvious potential they demonstrated at Seaburn Dene after they have left us. We are proud of their achievements and still consider every one of our children part of the SDPS "family".
Letters will have reached you outlining our plans for a grand open day on Wednesday, 16th October - to mark our 50th birthday. The theme is 1969 - obviously - and our Solar System experience. Please note this is a tour of the school. After school there will be two further slots: 4pm, 5pm and 6pm for former pupils to have a guided tour. If you know anyone who would like to take advantage of this experience, they should email: firstname.lastname@example.org , indicating which time they would prefer. Meanwhile - we are looking for any old school photographs...either drop them into reception or email the above.
Thank you for your generosity. We will still accepting donations until tomorrow (TUES) after which Sunderland Foodbank will be collecting.
