As you can see we are inundated with lost property! This photograph shows the unnamed items that have been handed in to the office since January, anything that was named was returned immediately to the child.

Can we ask parents to either attach name labels, or purchase a permanent marker to write on the tags. ALL items need to be labelled, including coats, shoes, trainers, trousers, skirts, vests - EVERYTHING! If using a pen, the names need to be checked, at least every term, as continuous washing does make the ink fade. 

PE bags - we find that the smaller the PE bag, the more likely it is for children to leave things lying around the cloakroom/classroom. Our school PE bags are large enough to allow the children to easily put their shoes/kit in without difficulty, and as they are named on the outside, staff find it simple to return items, even when the children are not in school. At only £3.50, it is worth the investment as they last for years!

The property that is not claimed is recycled. This year we are going to send any reusable items to Wearside Women in Need to help support their important work and everything else will go to charity as scrap - lets see if we can reduce this for next year!
