Let's All Be Scientists

2016-17 The Year of Science

Plans are already afoot for the next academic year. With a special focus on exploring and investigating as scientists, it promises to be a year of finding out fascinating facts, solving problems and developing an even better understanding of the natural world. I am having a wonderful time developing our science curriculum so that even some of our story books can help us with our scientific understanding. We will also look at possible careers in aspects of science and think about what we need to do to achieve this. Watch out for more information as we move closer to the Summer holidays.

Derwent Hill Residential Week

This week a group of Year 6 children are spending the week at Derwent Hill to "Discover, Explore and Challenge". You may not realise that Derwent Hill offers accommodation to small groups of private guests too so, if you fancy a weekend away, here is the website. http://www.derwenthill.co.uk/

Discuss, Debate then Vote

Today Gillian Bell, the Parliamentary Outreach Worker spent the morning with us. Following a very informative assembly for children at Key Stage 2, Gillian worked with Years 3 and 4 who held a debate on making homework illegal with Macy as the Speaker, keeping control of the two sides. She did very well to take no nonsense!

Then Year 5 and their Year 6 guests debated as to whether Torver Crescent should have a 15mph speed limit. Being very persuasive, the nays convinced the ayes that their argument was wrong so, in the end, there were only 3 ayes for the final vote.
