Welcome to Year 1 where we love to learn at every opportunity.
We spend a lot of our time learning through games, songs and practical activities. We have lots of fun becoming historians, readers, writers, artists plus many other things.
This page will be updated throughout the year with important information, photographs and updates about our learning journey.
Monday to Friday
Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday - please ensure children wear their PE kit to school on these days.
In Year 1 it is important that the children are able to read a wide variety of books as well as listen to stories and books. The children will bring home their phonically regular books as well as a library book each week. A little and often approach to learning to read is the best so we advise 5-10 minutes each night of reading to an adult.
English - basic sentence structure and grammar as well as writing fiction and non fiction texts.
Maths - Place value within 10
Science - 'The Human Body' and 'Materials'.
Geography - What is it like here? Learning about our local area and where we live in the world.
History - How I am making history? Learning about our place within history.
Art - Exploring lines and shapes in drawing.
DT - Mechanisms including wheels and axles
RE - How did the world begin? Discussing a variety of beliefs.
We love reading books in Year 1. We read a story every day. Some of these will be linked to our topics and others will be the children's choice. We will also look at various texts within our whole class reading lessons. Below are some of the titles that we will be looking at.
Homework is a mixture of online learning and a piece of paper homework each week. We expect children will access Numbots for 5 minutes each week, practise their spellings and complete a test on SpellingFrame each week and complete their Oxford Owl quizzes. If you have any difficulties with any of these, please let me know.
Take a look at what we've been getting up to.
