School Evacuation Today
Dear Parents and Carers,
During lunchtime today, we followed our emergency procedures and evacuated the school due to a suspected gas leak. This was a precautionary measure to ensure everyone’s safety.
The whole school, from Nursery to Year 6, moved calmly and quickly to Monkwearmouth Academy, where the children watched Moana in the new performing arts hall while we awaited confirmation from Northern Gas.
We’re pleased to let you know that Northern Gas confirmed there was no gas present in school, and we returned to the building at 1:30pm. The entire procedure lasted approximately one hour.
The children were absolutely fantastic – calm, sensible and a credit to you all. We’ll be holding a special assembly this afternoon to talk about what happened and reinforce how well they responded.
A huge thank you to Mr Buddle and the team at Monkwearmouth Academy for their support and hospitality.
Thank you for your continued support.
