This week, Seaburn Dene Primary School is celebrating a fantastic achievement during Walk to School Week—and there’s a lot to be proud of! Our pupils have shown exceptional commitment to active, sustainable travel, achieving an impressive 70% activity and engagement rate on the Living Streets Travel Tracker. This puts us among the top 50 schools nationally, and right at the top in Sunderland.

To recognise their efforts, we handed out Travel Tracker badges to children who logged their journeys in March and April—whether by walking, scooting, or cycling to school. And after half term, even more pupils will be rewarded with special badges for sending in photos of their journeys to school.

The impact of this initiative has been inspiring. Pupils report feeling healthier, happier, and more energised at the start of the school day. They’re also becoming more aware of how walking to school helps protect the environment.

Luke in Year 4 said, “I feel really good walking to school because I know I’m making a healthy choice.”
Arthur added, “Walking to school makes me feel good because I’m helping the environment.”

Staff have noticed that this daily routine not only boosts physical wellbeing but also supports our already excellent school attendance, as children look forward to starting the day with an active journey.

We’re incredibly proud of all the children for their enthusiasm, motivation, and growing environmental awareness. At Seaburn Dene, they are truly making a difference—one step at a time.
