VE Day: Reflection and Learning

Today, Seaburn Dene Primary School embraced the spirit of VE Day through a wide range of engaging activities, bringing history to life in creative and meaningful ways.

Our children participated in the following:

🔹 Oral history sessions, where they listened to powerful stories shared by visitors who lived through World War II
🎨 Art projects, where children created reflections on the significance of VE Day
📚 Reading and maths challenges focused on key events of the day
🍽️ Wartime cooking in our DT lessons, where students explored the food of the era
🕰️ History lessons which helped deepen our understanding of VE Day and its impact

We were especially honoured to receive letters from veterans, which provided a personal connection to the history our children have been learning about. These letters sparked thought-provoking discussions and reflections on the sacrifices made during World War II.

In a beautiful display of community spirit, children wore their Cubs, Brownies, Rainbows, Beavers, and Guides uniforms, and shared cherished family objects, from gas masks to medals, as well as personal stories from their own family histories.

As part of our efforts to spread VE Day cheer to the wider community, our children delivered bunting to Cuthbertson Court, bringing the celebration to our local neighbours.

Today has been a truly memorable and meaningful day for us all, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make this a special learning experience for our children.
