Update on Home Reading – Oxford Reading Tree Books

Years 2-4

From next week, children in Years 2–4 will continue to bring home their Oxford Reading Tree books as their main home‑reading book. We have always used these books in school, but we will no longer be using Oxford Reading Buddy as part of our home‑reading offer.

We are making this small change because children make the strongest progress when they regularly read and revisit a carefully matched book that supports fluency, confidence and enjoyment. Our experience shows that children benefit most from a consistent reading book they can return to throughout the week.

Each week, your child will bring home:

An Oxford Reading Tree book matched to their reading stage

A reading‑for‑pleasure book chosen from our school library

Reading logs will now be kept in class and updated by staff whenever children change their books.

You can support your child by:

Reading together as often as possible

Talking about the story, characters, new vocabulary and ideas

Encouraging them to enjoy their library book as well as their stage‑matched book

Your support makes a real difference. Together, we can help every child become a fluent, confident reader who enjoys books and feels proud of their progress.
