Poetry Competitions 2017

This year we are adding even more excitement to National Poetry Day celebrations. We will be holding the annual Poetry Recital competition which children can enter as an individual, pair or small group. Click on the class icons to find the poem to be memorised. And children remember that the more expression you can put into your performance the more votes you will achieve. Past winners have also used fancy dress, acting skills, props and Powerpoint to enhance their performance.

And so that EVERY child from Years 1 to 6 are involved in the competition, we are introducing a class poem off! Two classes will work on the same poem with the classteacher then compete against their partner class. They will then go through to a final three to attempt to win the class prize for the most dramatic and best presented class performance. The class poems are also listed in the class files. Years 1 and 2 will perform Pirate Pete, Years 3 and 4 The School Kid Rap and Years 5 and 6 The Witches' Chant from Macbeth.

In September we will also be announcing the theme of the Ivan Jones Amazing Poem Award.  The new trophy is here to win and you can do so by writing the best possible poem on the chosen theme-to be revealed on the first day back at school! Ivan Jones and his wife Mal will be judging once again and always look forward to reading the children's masterpieces.
