INTRODUCING OUR GOVERNORS
Julie Chalk-Chair of Governors
I have been Chair of Governors at Seaburn Dene School since 2009 and a Parent Governor since 1999 when my son joined the Nursery school. I have worked in Education since the late eighties and currently work in a Secondary School in Sunderland. One of the most enjoyable parts of my role there, is the Duke of Edinburgh Award and taking Students on the Challenge Expeditions to different countries Tanzania, Cambodia and next July we are taking students to Costa Rica to support a conservation project protecting Turtle’s eggs and then onto Nicaragua to help in a Primary school.
As Governors we support the headteacher and staff in a variety of ways to ensure your child has successful learning experience and enjoys school.
I know Seaburn Dene staff are committed to the teaching of children and achieving the best results they can, but they also develop in children a ‘Can Do’ attitude and encourage them to take part in a number of activities to enhance their learning both in school and after school clubs.
The headteacher and governing body have high aspirations for pupils. They are driving improvements in the quality of teaching so that an increasing number of aspects are outstanding. As a result, achievement is rising (Ofsted September 2014)
Jamie Bell-Vice Chair of the Governing Body
I am a civil servant and accountant, although I've held a variety of roles within the civil service throughout my employment. It was through the civil service that I first heard about becoming a school governor, I have a lot of colleagues that also hold a Governor role and they cannot speak highly enough of the experience they have had. I live in Seaburn Dene and decided to look for local opportunities to make a difference to the area where I live, using some of my "day job" skills to benefit the school and the children.
I was lucky enough to obtain a community governor position with Seaburn Dene Primary school in May 2014 and I also sit on the Finance and Premises Committee. I have been struck by the huge amount of commitment from all staff at the school, to provide the very best for the children.
I have a two year old daughter who will attend this school when she becomes eligible and I am looking forward to helping shape the direction of the school in the future.
I enjoy the diverse nature of the Governing body, all bringing their own skills and experience and working together to achieve the best outcome for the children.
If I could sum myself up in three words they would be: hardworking, kind and tired (tired due to aforementioned and very energetic 2 year old!)
