The Foundation Stage Unit

Journeys

Our Focus story is 'Funny Bones', by Janet & Allan Ahlberg.

We will be learning:

  • to tell story and sequencing pictures
  • discussing the areas and places they visit and comparing them to the places we pass and see on our journey to school.
  • all about shapes:  finding them in the environment, sorting, naming and making shape pictures.
  • to name and label parts of the body and our skeletons by singing songs, making skeletons and stepping into our x-ray machine!
  • about and exploring different modes of transportation.

September Topic

Over the rainbow

Tasting the rainbow

Discovering and investigating colours

Sorting  and changing colours

Stories:  Brown Bear; Elmer

In Nursery and Reception: We learned the stories by heart and went hunting for the characters. We mixed colours in the water and paint, as well as, making colourful biscuits. We ate coloured flavours on toast and even tried new foods – blindfolded!  The Reception children also tasted healthy and colourful fruits such as pomegranate and blueberries.  We all brought in our favourite coloured toys and had a fabulous ‘Elmer Day’, where everyone dressed in their best colourful clothes.

Teddy Bear Stories

Our Teddies have come to school!   smiley

We have made 'lost' labels for them and created observational pictures too.

The children are making bear crafts using different skills:  cutting and sticking, finger painting, bubble prints and more.

We are learning teddy stories by heart:  'Peace at Last', 'Going on a Bear Hunt'.

Most importantly - we all went on a Bear Hunt through the swishy grass, the mud and the river...

The children had a fabulous time making sandwiches for our Teddy Bears' Picnic - we all had a wonderful time eating and hunting for our bears!

We made fish and chips in the play dough. As well as, red, white and blue streamers and flags.

Learned to recognise and name famous people and structures from around Britain.

We also had a fabulous session 'Cleaning for the Queen'.

With rubber gloves, sponges and lots of sweeping brushes at the ready - we had a fantastic time cleaning and sweeping our school garden.

The best part was painting our Portraits in the style of the Queen and we made lots of money selling them to our parents.

Thank you for your support.
