Over 3 years children completing Year 2 in our school are consistently attaining results higher than the national average. Overall the school continues to improve in terms of results with, in the last 2 years, children achieving outstanding standards in maths in particular. Apart from maths being part of a national drive to raise standards, we are still puzzled as to why the OFSTED team gave maths to us as a key issue. However, with the introduction of INSPIRE maths in our school this term (Autumn 2015) we strive to further raise standards.

2014 STATUTORY ASSESSMENTS RESULTS

YEAR 1 PHONIC CHECK

All children in Year 1 take a national phonic check during the Summer term. This test consists of real words and nonsense words as it is aimed at seeing how well children are able to build up and blend sounds. Ofsted were very impressed by the outstanding teaching of phonics in our school.

"Daily teaching of phonics and writing provides pupils with a secure framework from which they rapidly develop skills in reading and writing. Impact is seen not only through the high proportions of pupils reaching the expected standard in the phonics screening checks at the end of Year 1, but also in the very high standards then reached in both reading and writing by the end of Year 2. " Ofsted report 2014.

Year 2 SATS

Towards the end of Year 2 children take statutory tests to measure how well they are doing in reading, writing and maths. I think you will agree that in 2014 the children who were in the Year 2 class are a very impressive and determined group to reach such high standards.
